Green wedding inspiration

Morning lovely readers!  After a wedding-filled weekend I’m back at my desk this morning and tying up a few loose ends before heading of to Dubai for the long weekend. Oh, I do love bank holidays! And after a few sunny days in April, it seems Summer has evaded our tiny island for the time being so I can’t wait to soak up some sunshine and have a few days off!  I’m also super excited to be meeting up with Joelle of My Lovely Wedding, Dubai’s first (and most stylish!) wedding blog, while I’m there.  See, I can’t even go a few days without talking about weddings!

Today’s mood board takes inspiration from a key 2013 trend, that I predict will be popular for Autumn and Winter weddings this year.  The botanicals trend is just hitting UK shores, filled with succulent green tones, natural textures and hints of antique style it’s pared back and elegant style is the perfect choice for brides looking for a clean and contemporary style.  Botanicals is a key trend in fashion and interiors on the high street this Summer too, making it easy to find the perfect props, bridesmaids dressses and details to complete the look.  Bouquets are large and messy, filled with shades of green foliage from broad leaved ferns, wild grasses and scented herbs.  More leaves and herbs, accented with neutral-coloured flowers fill apothecary jars, bottles and vases for an eclectic, laid-back feel to your reception tables.  How about a single fern leaf adorning each place setting for a natural but oh-so-elegant touch.  Decorate blank walls with these amazing hanging fern wreaths (find the DIY over on OnceWed) adding gorgeous textures to the room, or hang frames containing delicate pressed leaves (perhaps collected from your garden, or favourite places) which add not only an elegant decorative touch, but a homely feel too.  Keep the palette tonal for a calm and collected look, I’ve added a touch of black for contemporary sophistication.

A trend from 2012 which shows no signs of abating due to its timeless appeal and the fact it can be tailored to many different wedding styles, is the classic pairing of black and white. Dress the cake in black tie with a black ribbon fastened at the base of each crisp white tier, or steal from Louis Vuitton’s latest collection and go for a striking checker board effect.

Afternoon ladies! Have you started thinking about your W-day makeup yet?  No matter how far along in your planning you are, it’s never too early to start collecting ideas! Ana’s here this afternoon to give us a little insight into the trends and colours that are coming up in bridal beauty in 2013, and how you can use them to create an on-trend, yet timeless, look for your big day!  As a starting point, we’re taking Pantone’s 2013 colour predictions for spring, a toned-down jewel coloured palette featuring cool emerald (our favourite!) and greyed jade, to warmer peach and coral tones.  There’s some really pretty shades here that pair perfectly for a bridal look.

Happy Friday lovelies!!  Well, what an eventful week it’s been! Firstly the news of some of Britain’s favourite retail giants going under, and then a little closer to home, the shocking news of the Designer Wedding Show sadly going out of business and cancelling their February and October shows.  As an industry made up of many small, independant businesses, their loss is more than just a shame, for many it is financial difficulty and lost sales.  I wonder what it means for the future of wedding fairs? Do you like the big ones or the smaller, niche ones?

But it’s almost the weekend, so let’s look forward to the rest of the year with my 2013 trend predictions. I’ve really been looking forward to writing this post, there are so many exciting things going on in the wedding industry right now, so yay for you 2013 & beyond brides!!

So let’s start with one I *might* have already mentioned once or twice ;) Ever since Emerald was announced as Pantone’s 2013 colour of the year was announced towards the end of last year, the wedding industry has quickly embraced it!  I think it’s because it’s fresh, clean and natural, and so easily translates into a chic and stylish wedding colour palette.  Whether you go bold with green dresses (oh, how I would love to see a bride be bold in an emerald green gown!) or take a more subtle approach with your details, it’s sure to stand out from the crowd.
