inspiration board #59: industrial chic

Good morning early birds! Did you have a lovely weekend full of wedding planning, inspiration and general dreaminess? I sure hope so!

Those of you who know me, or have been reading b.loved for a while, will know that I love things that are clean and contemporary. I use a lot of white.  I love modern design, calm neutrals, and cool urban industrial spaces filled with natural light and polished concrete.  So, today I’m asking you to indulge me a little!  A bare, concrete shell of a warehouse may not be everyone’s idea of a perfect wedding venue, but well, I think it would be pretty neat!  This industrial DIY wedding on Style Me Pretty inspired a lot of the details for my own wedding, the way flashes of colour pop against the grey concrete really appeals to me.  I also love this wedding in an old brewery in Cape Town featured on The Pretty Blog.

Today’s inspiration is about taking that raw, urban edge and making it sophisticated and elegant enough for a wedding.  The addition of navy and a deep petrol blue make this palette sharp, and smart with a city slicker edge.  For this style of wedding you need a cool warehouse style building, the kind you find in the hip parts of London, New York and California.  A modern, structured and fashion-forward dress makes the bride stand out in contrast with her surroundings, and the groom wears toned down black-tie for a smart, but relaxed look.  Neon lighting adds a funky feature to the ceremony or reception space, I need one of these customisable signs from Not on the Highstreet!  Florals stay minimal and monochrome, the paper thin petals of anemone’s working perfectly to add a delicate touch to the roughness of concrete cinder block centerpieces, the added foliage with a rustic texture, is green and fresh.  An eclectic mix of reclaimed furniture forms the seating arrangements for the wedding breakfast, steel, aluminium and bare timber, some painted, some unfinished to add to the industrial effect.

Convinced yet?  If you are planning a trendy urban wedding, I would love to hear from you!
