inspiration board #52: what’s up buttercup
Happy Monday! I hope your weekend was filled with wedding loveliness? I’m still here in sunny Cape Town, enjoying the sunshine and hearing of the lovely spring sunshine that returned to the UK this weekend, there’s a warmth to the sun we’ve missed during the long winter months. This time of year, spring and early summer reminds me of the childhood game ‘buttercups’ where you place a vivid yellow buttercup under someone’s chin to tell whether they like butter or not. I don’t think it was an exact science….
The fresh hue of the buttercup inspired this inspiration board, I’m imagining an outdoor country wedding, a palette of pale yellows and a hint of fresh green, the colour of new spring grass. Yellow is such a happy colour, symbolising a fresh, new start and so the perfect choice for a wedding theme! Loose and natural hand-tied bouquets are filled with the freshest of yellow and white blooms, give an authentic country feel. Table centres of simple potted plants, or displayed in mismatched jugs and bottles, are an elegant way of adding a country garden look. A heaving dessert table, full of cakes and treats from generations old recipes are iced in white and yellow with the most delicate of sugared decorations. This sweet yellow three-tiered cake spotted on Real Simple, is elevated to star status with the addition of a pretty cake stand the colour of newly-hatched spring chicks. How stunning is this buttercup yellow wedding dress from Vera Wang? The lovely bride wore it for her rustic farm wedding, seen over on Green Wedding Shoes. This scheme would make the perfect choice for an English marquee wedding, with views over rolling hills and long grasses rippling gently in the breeze.
