Good morning! I’m so very excited to finally be able to share the images of this completely lust-worthy shoot I styled last year after a series of amazing features in both the UK {You & Your Wedding} and International {My Wedding Day Magazine in SA and top wedding blog Wedding Chicks} press!

Early last year, blogging friend and inspiration board genius, Gaby from SouthBound Bride got in touch to ask if I would help with an idea… She wanted to create a shoot to inspire brides based on one of her most popular boards, Sparkle & Blush, which also happened to be one of my favourites and bang on trend! In addition, she had recently teamed up with The Invitation Gallery (an online stationer in South Africa) to create an invitation suite in collaboration with one of Cape Town’s top designers, Seven Swans. With a lot to live up to, we began working on ideas and coordinating an expert team of wedding professionals to help bring our vision to life!

We wanted to create a balance between editorial-style images that make you go ‘wow’, with stylish, achievable ideas for you, our readers. Our starting point was the colour palette, blush, glittery gold and a touch of pistachio which evolved into a super feminine and romantic concept that combined all the elements of Gaby’s original vision. Set in the beautiful blush and mint interiors of Botley’s Mansion, in Surrey, and captured by the amazing Chanelle Segerius-Bruce, we were all seriously proud of the result!

This morning, I’m sharing the secrets behind the shoot, my tips and tricks and how to recreate the look for your own big day!

Keep the palette soft and fresh, with pale pinks, blush and nude tones, or for a slightly different take consider pale peach, apricot and coral hues. Glitter is key to this look, but be careful not to go overboard. Incorporate softer textures such as satin ribbons and lace for an elegant romantic touch, and spread heavily glittered or sequinned items around the space to prevent a glitter overload. I used sequinned fabric as table linen (a far cheaper option!) and sequins from my local haberdashery doubled as shiny and colourful additions!

The very talented Anelle at Seven Swans created a pretty pastel suite with an understated elegance. Using a beautiful calligraphy-style font for the feature text creates a real sense of romance, whilst a plainer font communicates the important details with contemporary style. Elements of stationery appear in every part of the day, consider the details that tie the scheme together, canapé and drink flags add an extra thoughtful touch.

Working with Leanne from top London florist WildAbout Flowers, we designed a floral scheme using different varieties of pink and blush roses (is there anything more romantic than a rose?) and white veronica for delicate detail and texture. For a more classic, formal wedding keep your flowers more structured, adding foliage and berries for texture. For a relaxed, boho wedding ask your florist for looser, hand-tied arrangements with a slightly rustic feel. Add interest and height to your table setting by elevating sections of your display. I placed the main arrangement on a cut-glass cake stand for colour and height, and added touches of lace and ribbon to the top of each vase for a pretty detail.

Cut-glass and coloured glassware can completely transform the look of your reception tables! I used a selection of pieces scoured from local second-hand stores (that can be resold or used after the wedding) and that I have collected over the years. You could borrow some from lovely family or friends, or hire for a hassle-free solution. The same goes for vintage tea sets, keep them coordinated for a formal celebration, or mismatched for a more vibe. Use them for your champagne toast for a memorable moment in your day! Don’t forget to prettify your place settings with favours – I added a sparkly hair clip from Debbie Carlisle to our place settings for the ladies.

In addition to the main table, I also styled a sweetheart table. This is an adorable way to get some alone time at your wedding when the day disappears so quickly, so you and your new husband get a chance to enjoy each others company if only for the meal.

Our gorgeous bride Chloe-Jasmine modelled four insanely beautiful and intricately detailed dresses by Mira Zwillinger. Each dress had it’s own unique style, yet they were all equally timeless and romantic. Our beauty team, award winning and brilliant, Kaz Fernando and maser of hair Severin Hubert of The Hepburn Collection worked their magic creating four soft, feminine looks with a contemporary flair. Kaz kept the make-up nataural with nude peachy tones, soft blush cheeks and a little colour on the lips, and as a final touch added a gorgeous gold glitter highlighter which would look fab for the evening reception on the dance floor!

For the hair, Sev created a number of styles, based on catwalk trends, from an elegant and soft updo, to stylish ballerina bun, swooshing ponytail, to tumbling curls all with a little French romance and ooh-la-la! Each look was complimented with a piece from Debbie Carlisle‘s fashion-forward collection of accessories, which coordinated perfectly with the dresses!

To finish the day with wow-factor, we asked cake designer Janet Mohapi-Banks to create a cake with a surprise… At first glance, this dainty pink pindot cake just looks super cute, but when you cut inside your guests will be amazed at the cascading pink glitter that is revealed!! For a sweet touch to a sweetheart table include individual mini-versions of your main wedding cake too! (Who can resist cake?!)

We also created a champagne bar – complete with edible glitter-edged glasses and a bottle of gold glitter-tastic champagne, available from Luxor!

  3. Beautiful Louise, I love the soft romantic feel to the shoot, I adore weddings styled like this and feel that is what is happening more this year. So brides forego the bunting and hay bales and create a look like this instead! And yes I have pinned as you anticipated
