love shoot #66: informal london wedding {joanna & duncan}
Good morning
How are we all doing today? There may be a chill in the air, but today’s wedding is sure to bring a summer vibe into your day. With sunflowers and steel drums creating a vibrant and fun flavour to their day, Joanna and Duncan’s wedding brings a wonderful burst of colour.
Joanna describes their day as an ‘anti-wedding’, they wanted to create a fun, party atmosphere without any of the formality or stuffiness of a traditional London wedding. Their intimate ceremony was held at Sutton House, a beautiful and slightly unuual historic wedding venue, that has the feel of a home, creating a lovely warm and relaxed atmosphere. Wearing a simple white dress, with just one bridesmaid and a bright posy of sunflowers, Joanna arrived at the venue by taxi, and walked down the aisle to Biffy Clyro’s ‘Umbrella’.
Joanna and Duncan asked their photographer, Hannah Mia, to forget traditional posed photo’s and instead capture the atmosphere of their day. With a natural and unobtrusive style, this allowed Hannah to capture the special moments, details and fun.
After the ceremony, guests were transported through the London streets by Routemaster to the reception venue, Camino, in Canary Wharf overlooking the Thames. With an outdoor terrace with wonderful river views, and a tasty tapas-style menu it was the perfect place to create the informal and un-traditional atmosphere Joanna and Duncan were after.
The decor was kept to a minimum, choosing to incorporate their favourite thinsg, without distracting from the reception venue itself. Joanna’s favourite sunflowers were used to decorate the tables, while a steel band entertained the guests whilst being served tapas. The father of the bride, and the best man spoke in between the courses to keep the party atmosphere going.
A huge thank you to the lovely Hannah Mia for sharing her beautiful work. To see more recent shoots and weddings from Hannah Mia Photography, click here.

I am obsessed with sunflowers and love how they used them for their wedding!!!!!
This is beautiful. x
This wedding looks so sweet and special. I love that they opted to go away from traditional wedding “everything”. And it must have been such a nice change for the photographer too!
I really love the simplicity of this wedding. The sunflowers and her wedding gown are so pretty!
